Canada’s Belvedere have a new album, Hindsight is The Sixth Sense out this Friday, 14 May 2021. I was able to get in touch with the band’s founding member Steve Rawles for 5 Questions! This interview has been lightly edited.
Belvedere’s new album drops oN Friday. Do you have any plans to celebrate?
Nothing concrete yet. We’ve been looking at any type of release shows but I think we’ll need to wait a few more months for a real or distanced show. When it’s time, we’ll get at it. I will say that we have our new Belvedere Band Punk Rock Golden Ale coming out that same day and I’ll definitely put back a few of those to celebrate. Unfortunately it’ll just be out in Alberta only.
If you could play the new Belvedere album on any stereo you wanted, in any location, to any group of people, where would it be and why?
I never really thought about it, but here’s a good idea: a big pumping stereo facing the Adriatic Sea in Ravenna, Italy with my buds in the band Actionmen and all of their pals. That would make me happy. It’s been one of my favourite places to play for years and they’re my favourite people.
What is your favorite piece of musical gear right now and why?
I’m not a gear nut, but I love my Les Paul 1960’s classic guitar. I got it quite a few years ago and absolutely love playing it. Nice mat finish and killer tone.
If you could go back in time and tell a 14 year old you something, what would it be?
Don’t take everything so seriously and don’t take every tour that comes your way. Haha. The band probably wouldn’t have burned out as much back in the 90’s if we have been a little choosier. While I can say that I tried to enjoy every moment while on tour, I probably would reiterate the point to 14 year old me to really keep it in mind. You never know when it could end.
Many amazing Punk Rock bands originate, and continue to come from Alberta, Canada. Did Belvedere ever gig with SNFU, and do you have a Chi-Pig story for us?
We did play with SNFU a few times in the early 2000’s and it was always special. We did a short run with SNFU and Chixdiggit in Ontario and I had one convo with Chi that stood out and it was mostly just listening to him talk about bands that were blowing up at the time and all the shit he had seen over the years. Every convo with Chi is something I’ll remember and cherish. Such a kind human.
Belvedere’s new album is available Friday as a digital download or physical media at the Lockjaw Records, Melodic Punk Style, or Thousand Islands Records Bandcamp pages; or streaming via Spotify.
Also be sure to check out our Who’s Zoomin’ Who? video interview with Steve at 1pm EDT on Friday, too!
Tyler Hall is a dude from Canada. Despite being in his thirties, he continues to play in a punk rock band like an angsty teenager.
