Swedish power trio 偏執症者 (Paranoid) are starting a cover of the month project for 2025, which is the tenth anniversary of the first time they did a cover of the month project. The world works in mysterious ways…
Anyhow, for their January entry they don’t pull any punches, reaching back over four decades (FOUR DECADES!!!) to Swedish black metal pioneers Bathory and their self-titled debut from 1984. Paranoid pluck the album track “Armageddon” for their cover and, well… the song has aged pretty damn well. Paranoid bring a bit more skill and production quality to the mix, with the biggest difference being the vocal stylings. Although one would be hard-pressed to choose which they prefer, Paranoid do the right thing and don’t try emulate Quarthon’s voice.
For the time being, their “Armageddon” cover appears to live only on Youtube. SO have a listen below, and be sure to visit them at their Bandcamp or Spotify for more music.

He’s lived (outside of) Chicago, Madison WI, (ugh) Penn State, Lyon FR, Oxford UK, central New Jersey, and now within earshot of SFO in the Bay Area. When not scouring the web for more great bands and labels to post about, he also spends time drawing (mostly) silly sci-fi and anime stuff under the name Asplenia Studios.
