1914 gives another death metal history lesson in new single/video “Pillars of Fire (The Battle of Messines)”

Ukrainian death metal masters 1914 have released a new single and video from their upco… you know, I feel I need to explain them first:

1914’s entire oeuvre consists of songs about World War I. The tracks tackle the horrors of war, describing specific battles and, often, taking lyrics wholesale from the written accounts of soldiers who fought in the war. OK, so now we’ve got that covered…

The new track is titled “Pillars of Fire (The Battle of Messines),” and comes off of the upcoming album Where Fear and Weapons Meet, which is due out 22 Oct 2021 via Napalm Records. The 8 minute dirge focus on the titular Battle of Messines. Per the video description:

This song describes the terrible events of the Battle of the Messines Ridge during June 7-14, 1917 in Belgium, one of the most insane episodes of the Great War. Subjects of the British crown and ANZACS dug a huge tunnels under the German positions, packed them with hundreds of tons of explosives and blew them up. In one second, in just one moment about 10,000 people have died.

Gruesome stuff.

Art and animation for the video was created by Tanya Pryimich and Valery Lifirenko.

So sit back, enjoy the history lesson and, if you dig it, head over to this link page to pre-order/pre-save the album, or stream more from the band.
