TGEFM is excited to bring you the new release by Colorado Springs punks The Sleights a day early! It’s Not That Easy is the band’s newest EP and is, technically, out tomorrow 21 Dec 2021 via Encapsulated Records. But we’re bringing you all five tracks today!
The Sleights are comprised of Luke Blanton (The Lillingtons, NOBODYS) on vocals and guitar, Adam Huscher (NOBODYS) on guitar, Victor Carbonell on bass, and Michael Hand on drums. Their previous releases delve heavily in punk and punk ‘n roll, but the new EP takes them in slightly new direction:
It’s Not That Easy is a slightly darker step away from our last record. We had new material we felt could stand alone as an EP and the songs run a little longer than our previous material because we spent much more time crafting lyrics and leads. It touches on themes of social alienation, near death experiences, and problems trusting those around you. The title track discusses the frustration of working in a band, or any group for that matter, and trying to keep the whole thing afloat. Something that is often more easily said than done.
The new album definitely moves more into the a melodic punk style at points, with some of the riffs and solos dipping their toes in the metal-side of things (OK, maybe skatepunk and thrash), and some powerful compositions (“Skin and Bone” is a great example of the latter).
The Sleights’ debut LP, Something Wasted This Way Comes, was released in 2018 via Rad Girlfriend Records and Swap Cabbage Records. The band also several EPs under their belts, as well.
So sit back and enjoy TGEFM’s premiere of the new It’s Not That Easy EP below, and visit the Encapsulated webstore where preorders are still available. Underneath the embedded stream you can find more links where you can support or follow The Sleights, as well as other streaming options.
