Album review: Bite Me Bambi – “Eat This”

Self-Released – 14 February 2025

Giving the OC ska bite on Valentine’s day.

It’s hard to believe this is the band’s debut full length album since forming in 2019. Although putting out an LP deviates from the group’s normal routine of releasing singles and corresponding videos, this album doesn’t stray too far from what you have come to expect from the band. Songs about speaking your mind and not sugar coating anything, backed by energetic ska pop-punk filled with fantastic horns, punchy drums, and piping organs.

Not to say the band doesn’t break any new ground on this release. Things kick off with an upbeat banger track called “Too Many People” featuring Dirty Walt of Fishbone that is skank nasty funky fun and if this one doesn’t make you move, you might need a pick me up.

This is followed up by some walking bass and dance heavy tunes “Bad Boyfriend” and “Girls Like You”. Skipping ahead one track is a cover of “Want You Bad” by The Offspring which not only puts the ska flavor on, but also heats up the vocal delivery.

“Do the Damned” switches things up with an early rockabilly sound about not being able to please anyone no matter what you do.

Ending things off is “Girls of Summer”, a laid-back easy-going tune with a little turntable scratching and some vocals delivered via rhyming and flowing.

The album flies by pretty quick at just over 25 minutes, but it is long enough to be considered a full-length release. Everything sounded great which is not a big surprise as it was produced by GRAMMY® Award-winner Cameron Webb (Sum 41, Pennywise). Some of these tracks have been previously released as singles but you’ll only find all of them on the bands first LP, so check it out if you liked the singles as I don’t think you’ll be damned if you do.
