(Update- the initial stock sold out very quickly. Fat has now announced that they will press more, and that pre-orders are back open).
There’s almost too much to unpack here. So let’s start with the instant gratification part:
Bad Astronaut, one of Joey Cape’s many side projects which he launched with former Lagwagon drummer Derrick Plourde (RIP) have released a new single. “Wide Awake” is the band’s first new music in fifteen years, and comes off of the new 7″ Inner-Space, which also includes a previously-unreleased alternate version of “Violet.” The track was written by keyboardist Todd Capps, and was recorded by the remaining members of the band.
Now to the meat of the story: that 7″ is part of a just-announced Bad Astronaut box set titled Universe, which will feature the band’s three LPs Acrophobe, Houston: We Have A Drinking Problem, and Twelve Small Steps, One Giant Disappointmen (all of which have been remastered), along with the aforementioned Inner-Space 7″. That box set is due out 23 Apr 2021 via Fat Wreck Chords.
You can hear the new single below, and check out the pre-order bundles for the Universe box set over at Fat.
