In Greek, there’s a word called “charmolypi”. There is no direct translation in English, and it loosely means a mixed feeling of happiness, while being sad. The lyrics behind “California” revolve around this state of mind, and people’s tendency to romanticize the past so much, they end up not enjoying the life they live right NOW.
