This isn’t the Op Ivy reunion you’re looking for (waves hand vaguely).
But it’s pretty damn cool. Operation Ivy alums Jesse Michaels and Tim Armstrong, joined by Joey Castillo on drums (The Bronx, Circle Jerks) and Spencer Pollard on bass (Trash Talk) have released a new track under the moniker Bad Optix.
The Hellcat Records singles club has released their debut single “Raid”. In the style of a first-wave Jamaican ska banger, the track oozes the socio-political commentary of their previous ventures, while still being its own beast.
Michaels discusses the song:
Raid is about every person’s spiritual autonomy from the powers that be, regardless of who they are or what their particular struggle is.
Like many of the tracks we have worked on, I heard the music and wrote the lyrics very quickly, almost on the spot. This was only the second song we did but it felt hot immediately and just flowed so we thought it would be a good way to introduce the new band to the world.
