Gird yourselves. The ever popular Bandcamp Friday is returning this week on, of course, Friday 02 Sep 2022. So you know that about half (or more) bands you follow on social media will start inundating you with their Bandcamp links.
The current run of Bandcamp Fridays is set to continue through December of this year. For those whoa aren’t familiar, Bandcamp Friday is a recurring event that takes place on the first Friday of the month where Bandcamp waives its own fees for purchases made through the site. This means that the musicians and labels you are supporting get 100% of the revenue after the required payment processing fees. Per Bandcamp, this means that an average of 93% of the total payment will go straight through to the artists (as opposed to ~82% on normal days).
Per a post on Bandcamp, they also state that out of the 21 Bandcamp Fridays that have already occurred, a whopping $78 million dollars has been paid out.
As TGEFM has moved toward a system of individual posts for new releases, we will do our best to get you each an every new release available on Bandcamp that we can this coming Friday so that, if you choose to make a purchase, the artists will benefit the most. (this is in addition to TGEFM’s general policy to always provide a Bandcamp embed or link when possible, because we believe that they are the least evil of the streaming/purchase sites)
the white drew carey (aka – Jeff Sorley) is the founder and head editor of TGEFM. He’s lived (outside of) Chicago, Madison WI, (ugh) Penn State, Lyon FR, Oxford UK, central New Jersey, and now within earshot of SFO in the Bay Area. When not scouring the web for more great bands and labels to post about, he also spends time drawing (mostly) silly sci-fi and anime stuff under the name Asplenia Studios.
