This Friday, 18 Jun 2021, Bandcamp will be commemorating Juneteenth by donating 100% of their proceeds from all sales to the NAACP Legal Defense Fund.
Juneteenth is an annual celebration, and commemorates the 19 Jun 1865 order by Union Army general Gordon Granger which officially marked the end of slavery in Texas. You can read more on the history of Juneteenth here.
The NAACP LDF supports civil rights in the USA, especially those of marginalized African-American communities and, as you can imagine, they’re very busy.
As usual, on Friday’s Corral of new releases, we will do our best to embed/link to Bandcamp whenever possible.
You can read Bandcamp’s statement here.
the white drew carey (aka – Jeff Sorley) is the founder and head editor of TGEFM. He’s lived (outside of) Chicago, Madison WI, (ugh) Penn State, Lyon FR, Oxford UK, central New Jersey, and now within earshot of SFO in the Bay Area. When not scouring the web for more great bands and labels to post about, he also spends time drawing (mostly) silly sci-fi and anime stuff under the name Asplenia Studios.
