Jersey Interchange, a collective of Garden State musicians coming together to cover classic songs from the local punk, ska and hardcore scenes, has released their version of the Taxicab Samurais eponymous “Taxicab Samurais” off their album Five Miles to Newark.
This week John Castaldo of Bigwig joins Nick Afflito and Mark Rendeiro of One Cool Guy for the cover track.
Taxicab Samurais frontman Dave Flores has previously worked on an NJ Joystick cover for the series, while Bigwig and One Cool Guy have both previously been performed by Heath Saraceno of Midtown with other NJ artists. Previous Jersey Interchange collaborations feature members of Ex Number Five, Folly, and The Ergs among others covering the likes Saves the Day, Weston, and Lifetime.
You can find many of the original tracks along with the entire discography of the Jersey Interchange at the ultra-expansive NJPP Archives here.
Bad Dad (occasionally called Ed) has been on the periphery of the punk and punk-adjacent scene for over twenty years. While many contributors to this site have musical experience and talent, Ed’s musical claim to fame comes from his time in arguably the most punk rock Blockbuster Video district in NJ where he worked alongside members of Blanks 77, Best Hit TV and Brian Fallon. He is more than just an awful father to his 2 daughters, he is also a dreadful husband, a subpar writer, a terrible dresser and has a severe deficiency in all things talent… but hey, at least he’s self-aware, amirite?
