Chick Magnets are the next band in the monthlong Misfits (and Misfits-related) series of cover. The band takes the supremely absurd yet amazingly catchy track “Skulls,” off of 1982’s Walk Among Us and up the tempo, and the goofy quotient, to turn the track into a speedy blast of fun.
I’m not sure exactly WHICH Chick Magnets this is. Is it the alt duo from Calgary? Probably not. The pop-punk act from Vancouver that seem to have been quiet for two decades? Maybe. Is it some new band? Beats me. TGEFM has reached out to OUTLOUD! to find out.
(UPDATE – turns out this is an archival recording from the Vancouver Chick Magnets! -editor)
In the meantime, check out “Skulls” below, and visit Chick Magnets here (not likely) or here (could be) because, frankly, I just don’t know.
Each of the covers are collectively under the umbrella of the We’re a Fiend Family comp, which OUTLOUD! is providing for free to all orders in the month of October, and by request with any order thereafter. To hear all of the covers released so far, check out the comp’s landing page on the OUTLOUD! Bandcamp HERE.
the white drew carey (aka – Jeff Sorley) is the founder and head editor of TGEFM. He’s lived (outside of) Chicago, Madison WI, (ugh) Penn State, Lyon FR, Oxford UK, central New Jersey, and now within earshot of SFO in the Bay Area. When not scouring the web for more great bands and labels to post about, he also spends time drawing (mostly) silly sci-fi and anime stuff under the name Asplenia Studios.
