Dutch punks Dowzer, quite literally one of my favorite things that I discovered whilst living in the UK, has decided to call it quits after 16 years. The band goes out on a high note with their final single “Undertow,” along with a farewell gig in December. First, they’ve given a statement about the dissolution of the band:
Slight change of plans: We know we promised you Kintsugi: Chapter Two, but in the process we realised we were not on the same page anymore. No fights, no drama but we just couldn’t make the pieces fit creatively together or setting new goals for this 16 year old band which we could all agree on.
We made a lot of memories together to be proud of, never to forget and learned lessons from. We all grew as a band, as musicians and as friends.
Our goal was to ‘go places and get heard’, but never did we expect that this Dutch band from the small town of Sprundel ended up playing shows in the Netherlands, Belgium, Germany, Austria, the UK and the Punk Rock Holiday festival in Slovenia, releasing records in Europe and Japan and opening for childhood favorites like Frenzal Rhomb and Undeclinable Ambuscade. Thanks a lot to everyone that helped us and believed in us, you know who you are. From the Myspace friends in 2007 to the followers on Tiktok today.
Is this the end? Not without a proper goodbye, but yes.. you will probably see some of us join other bands or create new projects, but it’s closing time for Dowzer.
We end this all with one last song and a farewell show friday 1st of december in Little Devil, Tilburg. It’s been quite a ride, hope to see all of you one more time..

16 years is a great run by any measure, and I wish I could be there for one last photo shoot (drummer Remy has quite possibly been my favorite drummer to photograph).
However, like I wrote about, we have one last single from the band. Please enjoy “Undertow” below, courtesy of Shield Recordings. This Linktree has a whole bunch of good Dowzer links for you, too.
the white drew carey (aka – Jeff Sorley) is the founder and head editor of TGEFM. He’s lived (outside of) Chicago, Madison WI, (ugh) Penn State, Lyon FR, Oxford UK, central New Jersey, and now within earshot of SFO in the Bay Area. When not scouring the web for more great bands and labels to post about, he also spends time drawing (mostly) silly sci-fi and anime stuff under the name Asplenia Studios.
