UK garage punks (and so much more) climb out of the woodwork for their second EP Still Cosmit. It follows 2022’s It’s Cosmit and 2020’s Cosmit. I sense a theme here with these album titles… if only I could put my finger on it…
Anyhow this three-song (currently) digital release is basically three ear-worms. Like parents with three kids, I can’t pick a favorite (but I’ll have to by the time I’m done). Opener “Punisher” starts out like an early-90s Superchunk B-side, but the lyrics are much cleaner. Damn if it isn’t so catchy. I love it a lot, but I also love “I Know What I Like.” It’s also stupidly catchy (sense another theme here) and features matching vocals by either Erica Freas, Kay Stanley, or both?
Closer “Hard Love” cools things down a bit with a much more classic love ballad circa 1981. It’s stupidly good, and your mom will let you play it on the car stereo!
- Favorite Song: Sigh… OK… hu… “I Know What I’m Like”
- Album Release Date: Already out, yo.
- Purchase/stream: Bandcamp (digital DL), Spotify
First Impressions are whiz-bang reviews of singles, 7″s, EPs, and LPs which are given a review after a single listen. This is a great way for TGEFM to showcase some of the releases which may not get a full review on their own.
