First Impressions are whiz-bang reviews of singles, 7″s, EPs, and LPs which are given a review after a single listen. This is a great way for TGEFM to showcase some of the releases which may not get a full review on their own.

Cleveland death metal band 200 Stab Wounds is brutal. I’ve listened to some of their stuff for a few months now as I’ve been digging into some heavy extreme sounds (kickstarted by a sudden fandom I’ve developed of SpiritWorld). I don’t know much about the band, but I’ve liked some of what they’ve done. Now, the band has released a new single.
“Masters of Morbidity” is another violent onslaught with blasting drums that are pretty pulverizing, a mass of destructive guitar riffs, some out-of-this-world guitar leads, and growling vocals that mean nothing to me as I can’t comprehend much of what is spewed (though they fit right in next to the disgustingly vulgar music cutting deep in my brain). It’s a chaotic and blistering song, one worth checking out. So curl up next to the fireplace, turn this destructo-mess on, and drift off to the stuff of nightmares.
