pur·ga·tive /ˈpərɡədiv/ – adjective
strongly laxative in effect.
Chicago sludge/thrash trio Arbogast went away for a long time. Their last album was 2012’s I and, while they’ve cropped up live here and there, it wasn’t until last year that things really seemed to pick up with more shows and the like. Now they’ve got a new single and, like the “Purgative” of the title, this band is now throwing up a great new song that makes me appreciate why I love music. It’s heavy and hard, alternatingly pounding and melodically thrashy. Plus, it sounds really good. Heavy bass and percussion with full-bodied guitar. I like it.
- Song Comes From: currently looks to be a stand-alone single, but that can change, right. Right?
- Album Release Date: hopefully there is one, and soon

First Impressions are whiz-bang reviews of singles, 7″s, EPs, and LPs which are given a review after a single listen. This is a great way for TGEFM to showcase some of the releases which may not get a full review on their own.

the white drew carey (aka – Jeff Sorley) is the founder and head editor of TGEFM. He’s lived (outside of) Chicago, Madison WI, (ugh) Penn State, Lyon FR, Oxford UK, central New Jersey, and now within earshot of SFO in the Bay Area. When not scouring the web for more great bands and labels to post about, he also spends time drawing (mostly) silly sci-fi and anime stuff under the name Asplenia Studios.
