First Impressions are whiz-bang reviews of singles, 7″s, EPs, and LPs which are given a review after a single listen. This is a great way for TGEFM to showcase some of the releases which may not get a full review on their own.
Self-released, 23 Mar 2023
Portland, Oregon’s Bazooka Sharkz have a new single available. “Quarter” just arrived this past Thursday and is the follow-up to February’s “Nowhere”. This new one is self-released and available for purchase at the Bandcamp link below.
“Quarter” has a mean guitar riff and a pretty blistering pace. The drums pound away without hesitation and the vocals come off as a throaty shout that take some getting used to and I’m not sure where I stand on them, to be completely honest. But they’re also different enough that they don’t sound “typical” for the music. The song is on the edge of rampaging sorta-hardcore punk and thrash metal (I mean, that riff is tough). I don’t think it’s going to be my thing over the long haul, but those interested in non-stop driving thrash punk music might want to check this out.
