First Impressions are whiz-bang reviews of singles, 7″s, EPs, and LPs which are given a review after a single listen. This is a great way for TGEFM to showcase some of the releases which may not get a full review on their own.
Self-released, 02 Dec 2022
Spain’s Bonzos have released a new single, a cover of the Grease song “You’re the One That I Want”, featuring Isabel Fernández to help out with the boy-girl vocals. It appears to be a standalone single and their first new song since last February’s Songs about cars, girls, & broken hearts.
The song is a pretty straightforward take on the singalong staple. The pace is a little faster and the guitars buzz like every good pop punk song should, but they keep the structure pretty much intact and blast through the song with an enviable energy. I’ve heard the original song far too often previously. But the boy-girl harmonies are pretty spot-on, the buzz – “it’s electrifying” (see what I did there?) and the sugary pop fun is palpable. So for that, I’d suggest you give it a go.
- Song Comes From: standalone single (appears to be)
- Purchase/Pre-Order/Pre-Save: stream available on Apple Music and Spotify)
