First Impressions Review: C.O.F.F.I.N. – “Cut You Off”

Goner Records, 20 Apr 2023

Australia’s C.O.F.F.I.N. have a new song available on Goner Records.  The single is called “Cut You Off” and appears to be a standalone single.  You can pick up the song digitally over at Bandcamp (check the link below).  The song also comes with a lyric video that you can watch below.

What should you expect with “Cut You Off”?  For starters, a rampaging garage punk song.  The band rips at a breakneck speed with buzzing static guitars that get set off by guitar leads and accents throughout.  There’s no real slow-down to what’s going on here.  It’s tight and it rips, especially when that lead guitar slices through around the 1:50 mark.  Overtop are vocal bellows that sometimes reminds me of Danzig when he was fronting the Misfits – a sort of manic and agitated croon that actually fits the music well.  I’m sort of surprised at the clean recording of a song like this, but it works for me.  It’s simply aces.  Check it out.

First Impressions are whiz-bang reviews of singles, 7″s, EPs, and LPs which are given a review after a single listen. This is a great way for TGEFM to showcase some of the releases which may not get a full review on their own.
