First Impressions are whiz-bang reviews of singles, 7″s, EPs, and LPs which are given a review after a single listen. This is a great way for TGEFM to showcase some of the releases which may not get a full review on their own.

I’m a Fucked Up fan, though one that’s been a bit less devoted post-David Comes To Life. That said, the recent Oberon release got my attention with some of the sludgy stomping and gross explosions it birthed and ended up maybe my favorite stuff since the aforementioned album. Now, word comes that a new full-length is on the way. Called One Day, the album is set to arrive in January. Ahead of the release is the dropping of album lead-off “Found”.
“Found” has a pretty cool harmonic guitar lead right from the jump that goes over a fairly propulsive rhythm section while Damian Abraham froths at the mouth in a way that seemingly only he can. On the chorus, the backing vocals that come in, echoing the yells and howls of Abraham, add a collective recognition and apology feel to a song that seems to ruminate with sorrow and regret on the European arrival in the West and the subsequent destruction of Indigenous peoples. It’s pretty heady but empathetic stuff. Extra kudos to the dreamlike coda that eventually fades away – it’s like the lasting embers of fading civilizations drifting to the heavens – or maybe it just sounds pretty.
