First Impressions are whiz-bang reviews of singles, 7″s, EPs, and LPs which are given a review after a single listen. This is a great way for TGEFM to showcase some of the releases which may not get a full review on their own.
Mom’s Basement Records, 11 Nov 2022
New York’s Goin’ Places have announced a “new” album from Mom’s Basement Records. The album, Fingerboard Road, was actually recorded shortly after their debut album, Girl Songwriting 101, but never saw the light of day until now. Available as of 18 Nov 2022 via Mom’s Basement Records, the album features covers of 18 different Beatles songs. With the release, the band has premiered the song “I Saw Her Standing There” over at Dying Scene.
Goin’ Places take on the song is pretty much what I expect – a faster and fuzzed up but true-to-the-original take that keeps all the pop instincts in place. The melodies are delivered well, the music is full of pep, and the backing vocals are delivered in a fun and imperfect way. In fact, that’s a great descriptor for the song – imperfect fun. Fans of the Beatles and basic awesome pop punk should check this one out. Good stuff.

- Album Release Date: 18 Nov 2022
- Purchase/Pre-Order/Pre-Save: available at Mom’s Basement
The song/album is not available for general streaming, but you can hear this song over at Dying Scene.
