LA political hardcore band Gottlieb have released a new single. “Billy Shitkick” is the follow-up to May’s “Venetian Hotels” and is name-your-price over at the Bandcamp link below.
“Billy Shitkick” is a raging slab of incendiary streetpunk hardcore. The guitars are flat-out mean, sounding like buzzsaws and digging into violent riffs. The bass throbs with a nastiness that keeps pace and the drums bash away with the subtlety of a jackhammer. Overtop it all, angry guttural yells spit out heavy words like “it’s a neo-fash singalong: guns for the white kids, but a black protagonist? that’s much too dangerous” and “Billy Shitkick’s gonna ban C.R.T., nevermind the fact he don’t know what that means”. The frustration and fury are palpable throughout and it feels like everything is just hanging together, but it’s done pretty well. This one’s a-okay to me.

First Impressions are whiz-bang reviews of singles, 7″s, EPs, and LPs which are given a review after a single listen. This is a great way for TGEFM to showcase some of the releases which may not get a full review on their own.
