First Impressions are whiz-bang reviews of singles, 7″s, EPs, and LPs which are given a review after a single listen. This is a great way for TGEFM to showcase some of the releases which may not get a full review on their own.

Green Day, one of my go-to’s in the 90’s, just announced the reissue of 1997’s Nimrod, possibly the last album by the band that dragged me in deep. The reissue is coming digitally, on vinyl (5x LP), and on CD (3x), featuring a bunch of demos from the era along with a live performance from the Electric Factory in Philadelphia from 1997.
Along with the announcement comes the first demo release for a song called “You Irritate Me”. It’s a quick one, topping out at 1:36. The song features the sorta clean pop punk guitars also heard on Nimrod songs like “Nice Guys Finish Last” and “The Grouch”. There’s also some nice harmonies and a pretty catchy bounce to the chorus and the pace keeps quick with some follow-the-guitar bass and simple basic drums. It’s not as fleshed out nor as good as the aforementioned songs, and it does sound a little sloppy, but it’s a solid fun song. Nice to hear some new-old Green Day again.
