GBV Inc., 22 May 2023

The indefatigable Robert Pollard and his cohort of merry men that call themselves have another album on the way.  Welshpool Frillies is the first new full-length since January's La La Land (that's quick turnaround, but is really not all that extraordinary given the band's history).  It can be pre-ordered from at the link below.

Along with the announcement comes the lead single, “Seedling”.  The song opens with some tasteful guitar and an enticing Pollard vocal melody before the full band steps up and begins a build that feels on the verge of reaching the heavens.  In the middle of it all is a bridge that drops a nice horn line and a little lead guitar before going back to the foundations.  And it's all smothered in so much shifting melodic goodness.  If you've been keeping up with and liking 's latest era, then you're gonna like this a lot (I have been, and I do).  But if you happen to be the type that only wants to hear from Pollard if it's been recorded on a Tascam 4-track (not me, but I get it – I love that stuff), then pop in your Vampire On Titus cassette and move along.

First Impressions are whiz-bang reviews of singles, 7″s, EPs, and LPs which are given a review after a single listen. This is a great way for TGEFM to showcase some of the releases which may not get a full review on their own.
