First Impressions Review: Hard-Ons – “Apartment for Two”

Cheersquad Records & Tapes, 26 Apr 2023

Australian rabble rousers have announced a new album on the way.  Ripper ‘23 is coming 02 Jun 2023 via .  It’s the follow-up to the 2021 I’m Sorry Sir, That Riff’s Been Taken full-length.  Ripper ‘23 features 12 new songs and can be pre-ordered on CD, cassette, vinyl, and digitally at the Bandcamp link below.

Ahead of the release, the band has delivered lead single “Apartment for Two” and an accompanying video.  The song is a hard-charging number with brief guitar shreds, rapidfire drum fills, and rhythmic vocals, very much in the vein of songs found on I’m Sorry Sir.  The repetitive guitar figure that kicks in around the 2 minute mark is hypnotic and the lead vocal/backing vocal combo weirdly reminds me of something off a Queens of the Stone Age record (and I mean that in a good way).  Hard-Ons always seem to bring the goods, and they do it again here.  Recommended.

First Impressions are whiz-bang reviews of singles, 7″s, EPs, and LPs which are given a review after a single listen. This is a great way for TGEFM to showcase some of the releases which may not get a full review on their own.
