First Impressions Review: Hell’s Satans – “Amulepe taiñ weichan”

First Impressions are whiz-bang reviews of singles, 7″s, EPs, and LPs which are given a review after a single listen. This is a great way for TGEFM to showcase some of the releases which may not get a full review on their own.

Wormholedeath, 06 Jan 2023

Chilean thrash metal band Hell’s Satans (“Simpsons” reference anyone?) have a new album on the way via Wormholedeath.  Called Hell’s Satans, the release is showing up 27 Jan 2023.  Most other details and pre-order information is limited at the moment.

Ahead of the release, the band has dropped lead single “Amulepe taiñ weichan” and an accompanying lyric video.  The song has a distinct old school heavy metal feel to the opening (I think I hear hints of Judas Priest, maybe).  The lead guitar positively shreds throughout and the rhythm guitars chug along devilishly.  The riffs have a real sinister edge to them and the guitar lead during the bridge around the 3-minute mark is maddeningly cool.  Throughout, the bass keeps pace and the drums are set to pulverize.  The only knock might be with the lead vocals.  When the song began, I was caught off-guard and admittedly put-off by the clean and higher-pitched vocals.  As the song went along, I did get more used to the tone and wasn’t so troubled by them by the end.  I don’t listen to his type of stuff with any frequency, but this is done pretty decently.
