First Impressions are whiz-bang reviews of singles, 7″s, EPs, and LPs which are given a review after a single listen. This is a great way for TGEFM to showcase some of the releases which may not get a full review on their own.

I’m a bit of a fan of Italy’s Latte+. They play the sort of basic no frills Ramonescore punk that gets my attention and are part of an impressive crop of current Italian practitioners of the style (including current favorites like The Manges, Senzabenza and The Peawees). If interested, you can check out a bunch of their stuff over at Bandcamp. Anyway, the band has a new album on the way and have dropped the lead single, “This Place Looks Like Hell”.
The song opens with gang vocals yelling the title before bursting into a melodic verse that is very much in the Ramones vein I prepared for. The guitars are pretty standard but solid, the pace is relentless, and the organ on the bridge adds a bit of surprise to the proceedings. And each time the chorus comes back, it’s a soccer hooligan singalong. It’s like a rather weird hybrid of Ramonescore and street punk that works for me. Pretty good stuff, this.
