First Impressions are whiz-bang reviews of singles, 7″s, EPs, and LPs which are given a review after a single listen. This is a great way for TGEFM to showcase some of the releases which may not get a full review on their own.

Loma Vista Recordings, 21 Feb 2023

LA hardcore power pop band have been one of the revelatory new hardcore bands I've taken to over the past couple of years.  Their two EP's, now merged into a full-length called All Roads Lead To The Gun, hit me just right with the heavy angst and weight of hardcore and the power pop-type hooks that made the songs quite different.  Now, they have a new single and video called “Do It Faster”.  That one's out via Loma Vista and can be purchased digitally over at Bandcamp (use the link below).

“Do It Faster” leans even further into the power pop aspects of their music.  Over a persistent drum stomp that takes up the duration of the song, guitars bounce brightly and effusively with a rhythm and tone that has the whole thing weirdly reminding me of post-2000's-era Guided By Voices, or something like that.  The lead vocals yell in a near-melodic sing-song that is catchy and endearing (but not in a GBV sort of way) and the stickiness of the song is pretty strong.  Like lots of of Militarie Gun music, “Do It Faster” manages to sound aggressive and catchy all-at-once. This one is my kind of thing.
