First Impressions Review: NOT – “Stop The World”

First Impressions are whiz-bang reviews of singles, 7″s, EPs, and LPs which are given a review after a single listen. This is a great way for TGEFM to showcase some of the releases which may not get a full review on their own.

So here’s something new.  Apparently there’s a new band called NOT that features members of Sharp Shock and Mercy Music.  The first I read of the band suggested that they’d be good for fans of Descendents and ALL (that’d most certainly be me) and their debut single “Stop The World” is our first chance to put that to the test, so here we go.

Right from the jump, the intro has the buzzing and surprisingly melodic guitars and when the band comes in together with the earworm bassline, the rhythmic and driving drums, and the plaintive vocals, there is a definite Descendents / ALL sound going on.  And maybe most of all, the song has some real genuine heart-on-sleeve words that remind me  of “I’m The One”, “She Loves Me”, or “Shreen”.  I write frequently about Ramonescore…is this the start of Descendentscore or ALLcore?  I don’t know, but it’s a real edgy pop song that comes off just right to me – so if so, I’m ready for it.

  • Song Comes From: standalone single – more info soon (hopefully)
  • Album Release Date: not yet announced
