First Impressions are whiz-bang reviews of singles, 7″s, EPs, and LPs which are given a review after a single listen. This is a great way for TGEFM to showcase some of the releases which may not get a full review on their own.

Procto Boy is gross. Steam Demon was reportedly written on the toilet and recorded in the bathroom, with the master tape “pissed all over”. Song titles include “Steam Demon”, “Weekend Piss Punk”, and “Deconstipated”. And then there’s the cover, a drawing of the “super hero” Procto Boy grunting on a toilet, complete with flies and stink lines. Leaning hard into shit, the 7-song release sounds pretty disgusting, too.
The songs on here blast with a manic intensity and crudeness, driven by stomping fast drums (machine?) gross mutant guitar tones, and snotty angsty vocals. The opening two-song salvo of “Steam Demon” and Everything About You Sux” is fantastic. “Steam Demon” leads with a sample and then blitzkriegs through a filthy speed punk number while “Sux” is a touch slower but has an almost-likable singalong vocal melody that doesn’t quit. “Weekend Piss Punk” has my favorite fuzzy lead guitar on the album and “I Need Eggs” has my favorite guitar riff (and maybe some synths mixed into the muck). “Deadbeat” plays around with rhythmic hooks (and a molten guitar squall during a bridge). Then Procto Boy closes things out with some prominent bass and backing vocals that almost reminds me of Spits (“Ice Cream Truck”) and some more just-right lead guitar (“Deconstipated”). I think there’s a little Nobodys in this, maybe even a touch of Germs. Fans of newer bands like Liquids and Coneheads might get into this, too. The whole thing is filthy, simple, and fun. I’ll be coming back to this one.
