First Impressions Review: Radio Blast – “King Of The Block”

First Impressions are whiz-bang reviews of singles, 7″s, EPs, and LPs which are given a review after a single listen. This is a great way for TGEFM to showcase some of the releases which may not get a full review on their own.

Mom’s Cellar Dwellers, 28 Oct 2022

After waiting for a long while, Radio Blast’s new album finally arrives on Halloween (31 Oct 2022 – hey, that’s today!) and I’m all sorts of excited for it.  After hearing the cool lead single “Latchkey Kids” recently, they’ve now offered up a second song (and video) in advance, “King Of The Block”.

“King Of The Block” is another Ramonescore nugget.  No let-down buzzsaw guitars cut and the rhythm section stays basic and solid throughout, with straight-ahead verses and a singalong chorus that is so simple I’m singing on the second pass.  I really like the up-down guitar riff on the bridges as well.  There’s no dynamics, no slow down/breakdown parts, just go for it street punk.  I said it in my review of “Latchkey Kids” and now I’ll say it again – fans of The Vapids, Head, and Neck will love this.
