First Impressions Review: Radio Blast – “Latchkey Kids”

First Impressions are whiz-bang reviews of singles, 7″s, EPs, and LPs which are given a review after a single listen. This is a great way for TGEFM to showcase some of the releases which may not get a full review on their own.

Mom’s Cellar Dwellers, 21 Oct 2022

I’ve been waiting and waiting on hearing info about the upcoming album from NYC’s Ramonescore adherents , with a couple of teases from the reliably fantastic Mom’s Basement/Mom’s Cellar Dwellers label, but not much in the line of actual details.  Alas, my frustrations have been alleviated.  A new album arrives on Halloween (31 Oct 2022) and I can’t wait.

Ahead of the release, the band has offered up lead single “”.  This buzzing street punk number is the sort of no frills Ramones homage that I’m always itching for.  It’s got an obvious and awesome guitar riff that I’ve seemingly heard a million times and wanna hear a million more.  The rhythm section bashes forward with no regard for nuance, driving forward with power and precision.  Overtop it all are the slightly snotty vocals singing an angsty melody that sits right with me.  Fans of no-nonsense bands like The Vapids, Head, and Neck will likely eat this up.
