First Impressions Review: Restraining Order – “Misled”

Triple-B Records, 09 Jun 2023

Hardcore band Restraining Order have announced a new album called Locked In Time.  That one arrives from Triple-B Records on 21 Jul 2023 with pre-orders already up (see the links below).  Along with the announcement comes the lead single, “Misled”.

My reference point for Restraining Order is rather limited.  I’ve only heard a couple of their songs and I just remember them kicking it with a ragged shouty hardcore sound.  “Misled” is a mid-tempo stomper with a simple and mean-sounding riff that goes on repeat.  The bass falls in line and the drums bash with power and vengeance.  Overtop are frothing vocals that seem more to my liking than I remember spewing introspective and self-loathing lyrics about failing to come through, lying, and not knowing why they are as they are.  There’s a real noticeable madness that comes through in the rabid vocals, and that anger seems to be pointed inward.  I found myself really liking this and will be back for more.

  • Song Comes From: Locked In Time
  • Album Release Date: 21 Jul 2023
  • Purchase/Pre-Order/Pre-Save: Bandcamp (digital) / Triple-B (vinyl, CD)

First Impressions are whiz-bang reviews of singles, 7″s, EPs, and LPs which are given a review after a single listen. This is a great way for TGEFM to showcase some of the releases which may not get a full review on their own.
