Indonesian pop punks Saturday Night Karaoke have a tendency to kick out catchy, melodic pop punk numbers with consistency – I mean, go check out songs from Millenial Kicks, Professional Goofballs, and pretty much any of their other releases and you’ll see what I’m going on about. So anytime a new song arrives, I get all sorts of excited.
“File Under: ARADANEKS BETA VERSION” has a quick beat that skips along without a hesitation. The guitar chord progression and melodic bass falls in line. But the real stars are the lead guitar and the vocal hooks. When the lead guitar pops into frame, it plays a bunch of bright notes that dig in as earworms. And the vocal melody is pretty instantly hummable – I don’t know the words being sung, but the lead and backing vocals are absolutely spot-on goodness. Most importantly, the song goes on with rambunctious abandon and fun – all high-energy playfulness. Highly recommended.

First Impressions are whiz-bang reviews of singles, 7″s, EPs, and LPs which are given a review after a single listen. This is a great way for TGEFM to showcase some of the releases which may not get a full review on their own.
