First Impressions are whiz-bang reviews of singles, 7″s, EPs, and LPs which are given a review after a single listen. This is a great way for TGEFM to showcase some of the releases which may not get a full review on their own.

After hearing Tee Vee Repairmann’s fun blast Patterns EP way back in 2021, an album that I really did like quite a lot, I sort of lost track of them. Now, lo and behold, the band has come back to release a single called “Bus Stop”. What’s more, the song is from an upcoming album called What’s On TV?, which happens to have a really cool cover that reminds me of something from the early era of punk rock (thinking late-1970s, early 1980s). I’m excited for this.
As for the song itself, “Bus Stop” is a rough-around-the-edges lofi pop rock number with melodic vocals, simple strummed guitar chords, straightforward drums and just-right fills, and a catchy earworm organ/synthesizer that beams in sometimes mimicking the vocal melody during the chorus. When I reviewed the Patterns EP, I think I referenced bands like Devo and Coneheads. This song has more of a straight pop/power pop thing going. For this one, I’ve seen references to Jonathan Richman and The Modern Lovers – and I can certainly hear that when checking this out. People who want something pristine and clean should probably look elsewhere, but the song is a memorable jam and I think the production style really adds to the song.
