German wrestling-mad pop punks The Cheap Pops have released a new single and video. “Starfish Beach” just arrived and is available for streaming at the Apple Music and Spotify links below. The video can also be viewed below. “Starfish Beach” is the first new music from the band since 2022’s split with Lookit, Martians!.
“Starfish Beach” leads with the infectious lead guitar that popped out all over the full-length Winless Summer. The guitar progression is ridiculously hooky, too, especially on the brief bridge prior to launching into each verse. And when the vocals come along, they are melodic and I’m pretty sure they’ll be singalongable after another listen or two. The chorus also lands nicely. I’m not always excited for the drop-out bring-it-down bridge thing, but Cheap Pops also use that trick really effectively around the 2-minute mark. I’m a fan.

First Impressions are whiz-bang reviews of singles, 7″s, EPs, and LPs which are given a review after a single listen. This is a great way for TGEFM to showcase some of the releases which may not get a full review on their own.
