First Impressions are whiz-bang reviews of singles, 7″s, EPs, and LPs which are given a review after a single listen. This is a great way for TGEFM to showcase some of the releases which may not get a full review on their own.
Laptop Punk Records, 18 Nov 2022
The Felonz have a couple of terrific releases under their belt for Laptop Punk Records. The “Hey Dick Savvy” single is a raw throwback song that’s snotty and full of angst with some hooks to spare and the follow-up self-titled EP from a little over a year ago is more of the same with the guitars a bit more buzzing and the songs set to a blistering pace.
Now the band has a new single, a horror punk song called “The Wolfkill”. This one opens with a sinister and completely fuzz-out guitar riff and a wolf howl before breaking into a mid-tempo stomp. From verse to chorus, the song goes double-time, keeping the dirty guitars in place. The riffs (especially on the chorus) are pretty cool and overtop it all are some heavily reverbed vocals that sound unaffected while calmly (almost disturbingly so) relaying a story of a man-beast that has been infected and becomes regrettably infatuated with killing. It’s a cool song, one that I’m sure to come back to.
