First Impressions Review: The Linda Lindas – “Yo Me Estreso”

Epitaph Records – 13 August 2024

released another single titled “Yo Me Estreso” from their forthcoming album No Obligation, which comes out 11 Oct 2024. To me this track is a little bit of a departure from what I have come to expect from the all-female youth pop-punk rockers. They already have released a song sung in Spanish before so that was not a surprise, but this tune features an accordion played by none other than . I can’t say I expected or saw that collaboration coming. The song and simultaneously released video has a circus sound and theme. This less punk-rock tune also has a more mature and a less upbeat and fun tone than what a lot of their music usually has. The lyrics translate into a song about being anxious and stressed and finding moments of clarity. Even with its more grown-up message my 8-year-old loves this song and listens to it every day, multiple times, and she does not know Spanish either. It has even sparked her interest in Weird Al songs, so maybe this was some smart marketing on Weird Al’s part, or maybe he is just a fan. Whether or not you are a fan of The Linda Lindas I would check this one out, and let me know what you think.

First Impressions are whiz-bang reviews of singles, 7″s, EPs, and LPs which are given a review after a single listen. This is a great way for TGEFM to showcase some of the releases which may not get a full review on their own.
