First Impressions Review: The Missing Peace – “Firework”

Self-released – 19 January

Genre-blending newcomers The Missing Peace have dropped a new stand-alone single, “Firework.” The track follows up the recent viral hit “tiger face.”

“Firework” is pretty much a perfect amalgamation of everything good and right in the future of music.  There’s fairly clean guitars playing some memorable riffs.  There’s a ridiculous brainwashing digital keys that pops up a couple of times.  The simple drums keep time just right (and sound like the work of a drum machine).  And there’s even some screamo alternating between clean and gruff vocals!  Those clean vocals are the catchiest shit, through hints of Linkin Park meets Deftones and not a moment of redundancy. Sounding shouted through a bullhorn or phone, they bring the energy and hooks seamlessly transitioning into the fun of the screaming.  And fun is the right description for this song.  I really love it and think fans of post-hardcore like Underoath and indie pop-punk acts like Kennyhoopla will both find it a delectable treat.

First Impressions are whiz-bang reviews of singles, 7″s, EPs, and LPs which are given a review after a single listen. This is a great way for TGEFM to showcase some of the releases which may not get a full review on their own.
