First Impressions Review: The Rieslinger – “Punkrauxerrois”

First Impressions are whiz-bang reviews of singles, 7″s, EPs, and LPs which are given a review after a single listen. This is a great way for TGEFM to showcase some of the releases which may not get a full review on their own.

Laptop Punk Records, 15 Dec 2022

Germany’s The Rieslinger have released lots of good stuff on Laptop Punk (in addition to some great songs under the parent band Lookit, Martians!).  Now, “Punkrauxerrois” arrives as the newest single and keeps the pop punk vibes strong.

This new one is another driving pop punk song that moves along quick, but never feels rushed.  The guitars have a buzz and the chord changes are basic but solid.  The melodic bass shines throughout, at times standing out from the fray memorably.  But the heart of the song is in the vocals and vocal harmonies.  They go well together, carrying a singalong melody throughout.  Further, the vocals are never hurried, so while the song gallops along at a pop punk pace, it feels comfortably at home the whole time.  If you’ve liked other stuff by The Rieslinger or Lookit, Martians!, you’re gonna likely be up for this one, too.  Check it.
