First Impressions are whiz-bang reviews of singles, 7″s, EPs, and LPs which are given a review after a single listen. This is a great way for TGEFM to showcase some of the releases which may not get a full review on their own.

New Jersey’s The Spachoolas have a new 3-song EP out called Flippin Out. The band has released several other songs and EPs that usually hit pretty well for me, and this one follows suit.
Flippin Out continues the rugged pop punk sound I remember from the band. The lead song “Grilling the Ref” is a bouncy and energetic number that makes me feel a little less bad for yelling at referees from the comfort of my couch. The follow-up, “Sick Wit It”, feels pretty heavy as it opens up, with some metal-esque vibes in the fast chugging guitars and lead guitar, but when the chorus hits, it’s pop gold – easily my favorite Spachoolas song to this point. The final song, “Teacher Wives”, is a goofy pop song more in line with the lead track. The chorus is ridiculously catchy and singalongable. Flippin Out is a good time, probably my favorite collection from the band yet.
