First Impressions Review: The Teen Sensation Glasses – “Space Chick”

First Impressions are whiz-bang reviews of singles, 7″s, EPs, and LPs which are given a review after a single listen. This is a great way for TGEFM to showcase some of the releases which may not get a full review on their own.

Something To Do Records, 15 Feb 2023

Something To Do Records is doing what they do, starting up Phase 3 of their “Something To Do Music For Something To Do People” singles series.  Currently on their third song (unfortunately we missed out on the first two installments, songs by Covert Flops and Parasite Diet – both great), The Teen Sensation Glasses are up next with the song “Space Chick”.

“Space Chick” is a ridiculously catchy song, complete with “ba-ba-ba” backing vocals and new-wavey synths that sound lifted from a Rentals song.  The guitars play a simple-cool progression and the drums and bass keep up a determined mid-tempo pace while the lead vocals sing super melodies.  And the not-too-serious words keep things light-hearted and fun.  The lead vocals themselves aren’t angsty or snotty, but I do hear a touch of Pat Termite (of Beatnik Termites) vocals whenever I hear Teen Sensation Glasses songs and this one’s no different.  This one is a real earworm. When that chorus hits the second time around, I’m pretty sure you’ll be singing along (or at least humming along).  I like this a bunch – highly recommended.
