First Impressions Review: Tightwire – “One Foot in the Grave”

Red Scare Industries, 10 May 2023

Minneapolis’ Tightwire have a new album coming soon.  Head Full of Snakes arrives 03 Jun via Red Scare and all the needed info and links are offered up below.  For this new one, the band has expanded to a 4-piece, adding a new element to the harmonies.  Having already released the really cool “Anyone But You”, the band has now delivered a new song and video.  It’s called “One Foot in the Grave” and you can check it out below.

“One Foot in the Grave” is another instant blast, all high-energy buzz and pace with rattling melodic bass, supercharged guitars, and nimble quick drums.  Like Tightwire so often does, the vocals are loaded with hooks.  The phrasings around the chorus stick in my brain and the lead vocal melodies are completely spot-on.  And I’m not sure about this, but the vocal harmonies might even be more memorable than the lead vocal hooks.  Over and over again, the “ahh’s” and “whoa’s” sound pretty perfectly executed.  Simply, this is pop punk of the highest order.  And it’s all over and done within a minute and a half – what more could I ask for?

  • Song Comes From: Head Full of Snakes

First Impressions are whiz-bang reviews of singles, 7″s, EPs, and LPs which are given a review after a single listen. This is a great way for TGEFM to showcase some of the releases which may not get a full review on their own.
