GLOW – “Demo”

Self Released – ??

Heavy rock with a dash of grunge

How to write something about something you almost know nothing about? I presume is a band. I hear several instruments like guitars, drums, sampling, etc. But it could also be a solo project where one person has tracked all the instruments.

Regardless, GLOW‘s demo presents us with four tracks of mid-tempo, driving heavy hard rock. In some way it reminds me of FAITH NO MORE although GLOW’s vocalist doesn’t nearly have Mike Patton’s vocal range (then again, who does?). Other influences that come to mind are PORNO FOR PYROS and/or LIFE OF AGONY and a general dose of grunge thrown in for good measure. The difference here is that the band’s songs are stripped down to a more bare essence. Can’t predict if these songs will make a lasting impression but there’s obviously craftsmanship that went into the making and recording of this demo. Sonically it sounds very good and the musicians have ample control of their instruments.

A good overview of GLOW’s capabilities? Who knows. At least my headbangin’ stoner cousin from the 1990’s is gonna dig the hell out of this.
