Curious what notable personalities in the scene think was great this year? So is TGEFM! So we reached out to some of our favorite luminaries ranging from musicians, label personnel, and more for their “Best of 2023” lists. Now, listen: TGEFM is not a taskmistress. Contributors can write these out however they want. So if it doesn’t actually look or read like a list… and sometimes it really is just a list with no other observations! Who cares?
Barcelona punks Blowfuse have been active and renowned since 2008 in their home country. After the recent release of the new single “Move On” the band’s Sergi shared some of his 2023 favorites with That’s Good Enough For Me.
– The Hives – The Death of Randy Fitzsimmons. We have been sharing several of their video clips from the new album for the last few months. We found the videos very inspiring and the songs very fresh, pure Hives essence.
– Demob Happy – Divine Machines. I discovered this band on instagram and loved them at first listen, I would define it as psychedelic classic rock, but you tell us!
– Royal Blood – Pull Me Through. We have been fans from these guys since they released their Thyphons album in 2021, and even though we don´t think it´s their best album, it really contains the soul of the band.
– Daniel Ceasar – Unstoppable. I have been a true fan of this dude for years, definitely so different to the rest of the bands, but his R&B soul singed always inspires.
– Steel Panther – On the Prowl. Just as Royal Blood, even though not being their best album, their song 1987 is a masterpiece, highly recommended band!
– White Reaper – Asking for a Ride. This band did a huge step with this album, and we have been fans from them since we listened both what we consider their best hit songs: “Might be Right” & “Really Long Time”, 80/90´s powerpop with a very vintage sound and poppy style.
– Paramore – This is Why. We haven´t been fans of this band but it took us by surprise to listen to a few of their new songs, very clever composition and corky melodies, and the very artistic videos, which we believe go in a different direction from the classic Paramore sound. Really recommend: “The News”, “Running Out of Time & “This is Why”.
– Crim – Cançons de Mort. This guys are basically family, we have shared stage several times. They have definitely evolved a lot musically, and this album is an example of it. Clean & perfect guitar solos, classic punk rock with a lot of attitude, and singed in catalan! Go check them.
– Foo Fighters – But Here We Are. We have always considered FF an exception rule and a growth and improving example. Considering that many of the 90s & 00s bands just released one or two hit albums and nothing very notable after that, FF have always showed that they can still write hit songs after so many years, this album contains a few hits!
– Frenzal Rhomb – The Cup of Pestilence. One of our favorite punk rock bands. The Aussies still can do incredible songs and even though we prefer their Smoko at the Pet Food Factory from 2011, this is a very cool album too, following their essence, very fast, detailed and melodic songs.
