Chicago’s Sincere Engineer have been around, in some form or another, for a decade now. Deanna Belos, who is the driving force of Sincere Engineer, brought us a documentary about the band’s origins as a solo acoustic act and evolutionary growth within the Chicago punk scene. She’s made this herself because, “Nobody’s Gonna Do It For You.”
You have Red Scare Toby. You’ve got Kyle Geib, guitarist, whose whole interview you want him to just eat the damn lobster claw!
The doc is a tad over an hour long, so isn’t a mini-doc, but not a full, either. It’s just right.
Sincere Engineer last released the “Parting Gift” single, with Brendan Kelly, late last year and their third LP Cheap Grills in 2023 via Hopeless Records. Check out the doc below, and head to Spotify for more music.

the white drew carey (aka – Jeff Sorley) is the founder and head editor of TGEFM. He’s lived (outside of) Chicago, Madison WI, (ugh) Penn State, Lyon FR, Oxford UK, central New Jersey, and now within earshot of SFO in the Bay Area. When not scouring the web for more great bands and labels to post about, he also spends time drawing (mostly) silly sci-fi and anime stuff under the name Asplenia Studios.
