DC soul/punks Lightmare have released the second single from their upcoming album. “Kill The Butcher” comes off of Dirt, which is due out 29 Oct 2021 via This Could Go Boom! Records. Dirt is a follow-up to Lightmare’s 2018 LP Dream Glitch
Per This Could Go Boom! (I could write that every day and it would still make me smile):
“Kill The Butcher” is a darkly personal punk confessional for Lightmare’s lead singer Shady Rose (they/them), who penned the song’s lyrics in the midst of the impossibly-difficult restorative justice process with a person who had sexually assaulted them. Exploring a delicate and fierce array of Rose’s emotions, their soulful, dynamic, punk-af vocal delivery serves as a bedrock of the bands’ raucous, mobilizing sound — and nowhere on Dirt is their sound more convincing than on “Kill The Butcher.”
Hard-hitting, but still a pleasure to listen to, “Kill The Butcher” has a more upbeat tempo than the first single “All Cats are Beautiful.”
You can listen to the new track below and pre-order the album over at Bandcamp. You can also stream the band’s other music there, or hit up their Spotify.
the white drew carey (aka – Jeff Sorley) is the founder and head editor of TGEFM. He’s lived (outside of) Chicago, Madison WI, (ugh) Penn State, Lyon FR, Oxford UK, central New Jersey, and now within earshot of SFO in the Bay Area. When not scouring the web for more great bands and labels to post about, he also spends time drawing (mostly) silly sci-fi and anime stuff under the name Asplenia Studios.
This song hits so hard!! ❤️❤️❤️
Pardon our French, but So Fucking Good doesn’t even begin to describe.
