UK-based punk/hardcore label Lockjaw Records has announced they will be releasing a charity comp for Black Lives Matter. Titled The Black Lives Matter: Punk Compilation, it is due out 27 Aug 2021.
While more acts are still to be announced, so far the lineup already looks to be worth your dollar/pound/euro/what have you: Drones, Belvedere, La Armada, and Triple Sundae will be participating in the comp, with more to come (full lineup of the currently announced bands at the bottom).
All proceeds from the sale of the comp will be split between Black Minds Matter in the UK, and the NCAAP Legal Defense Fund in the USA.
Lesley-Anne O’Brien of Lockjaw has this to say about the comp:
After the murder of George Floyd, we participated in Black Out Tuesday and since then we’ve been having meetings to discuss what we could within our sphere and scene to address the issues of structural racism and representation.
The punk and hardcore scene is really white. We felt the best way to address the issue of representation was to create a compilation that features tracks from people of colour within the punk genre, and tracks from outside the genre that have a ‘punk attitude’ & energy. We need to look outside of our scene and we can hopefully find some commonalities which we can enjoy and celebrate. And of course, we’ve got some great tracks from bands in the scene dealing with themes of anti-racism and social justice
In addition to the comp itself, the label will also be selling t-shirts featuring the cover art of the comp, with the proceeds also going to above organizations. You can check out that pre-order here.
