Flash back to the mid-to-late 90s, the heady days when punk rock was, for lack of a better word, mainstream. California act Outahand were doing their time in the trenches, opening for acts such as No Use For A Name, AFI, and more. The band recorded what was to be their debut, self-titled LP, and shopped it around a bit. But it failed to gain traction and the project fell by the wayside.
Enter Richard Dal Porto, friend of the band and someone who has always thought the album should see a proper release. Recently drummer Frank Hayes uncovered the ADAT tapes of the LP while cleaning house, and they were sent to Joel Grind (of Toxic Holocaust, also mixer and engineer) to be refreshed. Now, after over 25 years, the album is available for public consumption via Burntwolf Records, a new label created by Dal Porto just for this release
The release is out now as a digital download at the Outahand Bandcamp site, but the real joy is in the limited edition vinyl, for which preorders are open with expected delivery towards the end of Jan 2023. Along with 100 green vinyl, 3 of the 5 test pressings are also up for purchase.
While speaking with Richard via email, he told me that Burntwolf was meant to be a one-and-done label created solely for this release. But the bug has hit him, and BWR already has more in the works.
For now, set your time machine to the 90s when baggy trousers were still a thing in punk, the internet barely existed, and Outahand recorded their debut LP.
