Chicago’s emo visionaries Braid are preparing to celebrate the 25th birthday of the seminal classic Frame and Canvas by giving fans a ton of gifts.
On April 7, the band will team with Polyvinyl Records to release a re-mastered version of Frame and Canvas. Original producer J Robbins recently discovered the original 2″ tape reels, which he has used to re-mix and re-master. The record will be available on vinyl (two variants) and digitally and can be pre-ordered here.
The gifts keep coming as the quartet have announced a spate of new tour dates to perform the album (on-sale 24 February) and released a music video for the remastered “Killing A Camera” featuring unseen footage from the band’s early touring days.
Braid frontman Bob Nanna says of the release and return to touring:
“As the original recording and mixing session of the album was done in a five-day panic, we’re thrilled that J. had the idea and the opportunity to take the time to revisit the raw tracks and create new mixes… In addition, working with our long-time friends Polyvinyl on this reissue has been a major burst of nostalgia and joy. We look forward to bringing that energy back on the road this year and look forward to playing the album for excited friends, old and new.”
The video can be seen below the tour poster here.
Bad Dad (occasionally called Ed) has been on the periphery of the punk and punk-adjacent scene for over twenty years. While many contributors to this site have musical experience and talent, Ed’s musical claim to fame comes from his time in arguably the most punk rock Blockbuster Video district in NJ where he worked alongside members of Blanks 77, Best Hit TV and Brian Fallon. He is more than just an awful father to his 2 daughters, he is also a dreadful husband, a subpar writer, a terrible dresser and has a severe deficiency in all things talent… but hey, at least he’s self-aware, amirite?
